Lucky players from the Under 10’s through to the Under 14’s squads learnt new skills and brushed up on some old ones under Larkham’s watchful eye.
There was a great turnout of players, parents and spectators eager to see the rugby legend run the up and coming players through their paces.
The Young Yabbies Junior Rugby Union season is still a little while away but with Larkham training with the players, it will no doubt give the teams a confidence boost moving into the Southern Inland Rugby season.
“It is a huge privilege and rare opportunity to have someone of Stephen's experience coaching the kids of Young,” Young Yabbies parent and member Monique Woodward said.
Working with the players they focused on passing cleanly, tackling, scrums and rucks, with the children eager to get on the paddock and show Larkham their skills as individuals as well as a team.
Larkham needed no introduction to rugby supporters who know the current head coach of the ACT Brumbies for his long career playing for the team and as an international star for the Wallabies.
Larkham has gained his coaching experience after his stellar career and playing in three successive world cups which included being part of the Rugby World Cup winning team in 1999.
Not only is Larkham now the head coach of the ACT Brumbies he is also the attack coach for the Wallabies squad.
The ACT Brumbies are currently at the top of the Australian teams in the Super Rugby with 11 points despite going down to the Highlanders at home last weekend.
The Brumbies have a bye this weekend but the team is looking good in preparation for taking on the Reds on April 7 in Canberra.
The Young Yabbies Junior Rugby Union Club are part of the Southern Inland Rugby Union Competition.
The teams hold training on Friday nights from 5 pm.
