Helen Spencer was named the Young Golf Club’s Ladies’ Champion last weekend after the final two rounds of the annual championships were played.

Helen finished the championships with a three round total of 264 while Wendy Tuckerman nipped at her heels with the best two scratch scores of the weekend finishing up on 267. Liz Harding and Wendy held a one shot lead over Helen with four holes to play. According to Helen experience played a part over the final four holes where she recorded three pars and a bogey.
Division 2: Noela Hardman had a great round on Saturday scoring 95 making sure no one would catch her and then on Sunday posted a solid 101. Noela’s three round total was 296. Cheryl Minehan (310) was the runner-up after surviving a final round count-back from Jan Broderick.
Division 3: Maureen Perkins successfully defended her championship when she posted steady rounds to record a total of 333. Suzanne Manning with 355 was the runner-up.
In conjunction a 54 hole handicap event was conducted. The winner in Division one was Michele Blizzard with 222 nett from Liz Harding 229 nett. Libby Plumley won Division 2 with 233 nett with Larraine Nicolls runner-up with 239 nett. One of our newer golfers Joy McCormick won Division 3 with 239 nett and Pammie McCloy was runner-up with 249 nett.
The Senior Veterans Salver was won by Lorraine Regan (243 nett) and the Centennial Bowl, for the best 54 hole nett of the championships, was won by Michele Blizzard (222 nett).
The daily event winners on Saturday in their respective grades were Kate Cooper 74 nett on a countback from Wendy Tuckerman, Libby Plumley 73 nett and Maureen Perkins 74 nett. Ball comp winners to 75 nett on a countback.
On Sunday the winners were Michele Blizzard 70 nett, Libby Plumley 76 nett and Joy McCormick 79 nett. Ball comp winners to 78 nett on a countback.
Helen Spencer said all those who participated over the weekend enjoyed the challenge of the three stroke rounds. The championships were supported by Terry Bros Carpet Court and Donges Supa IGA.
