The days of reading Romeo and Juliet and Looking for Alabrandi are over with students now able to pick from over 101 texts, including Fahrenheit 451, I am Malala and Lost in Translation.
The texts on the list include 26 new texts and range from prose fiction, poetry, nonfiction, drama, film, media and digital texts across Years 11 and 12. HSC students of 2019 will still have the opportunity to study a range of classic and contemporary texts such as the ever popular Shakespeare, John Keats, Tim Winton and Noel Pearson, but will now be able to choose from newer works.
Education Minister Rob Stokes welcomed the release of the HSC English prescribed texts.
“Quality literature has always been a key component in the range of English courses from standard to extension and this will not change,” Mr Stokes said.
