Police believe that at approximately 3.30am on Easter Monday the brazen thieves forced their way through the front door of the Young toy business.

Store owners Brad and Cathy Penson say more than $8500 of assorted Lego was stolen.

"They just took the large boxes of Lego, the Star Wars, Creations, City and Batman, it's like they already knew what they wanted and they have a ready-made market to sell to," Mr Penson said.

"We believe they came to our store beforehand and photographed our stock, checked out our locks with the view to come back and strike at a later date.

"They didn't touch anything else, they have walked past far more expensive stuff in favour of specific Lego items."

Mrs Penson said the stock may well show up on e-bay and she has asked people to be wary of buying Lego in this manner as it may be stolen stock.

"The Star Wars Lego are highly collectable, so this isn't the work of kids," she said.

"This theft would be adults that have a ready-made adult market through the likes of e-bay.

"We know of other retailers that have had their Lego stolen in a similar fashion, so this theft could be part of a larger coordinated effort to sell to collectors, but the problem for collectors is that the thieves will look to sell this stuff at a higher price than what we retail it for."

Cootamundra LAC Sergeant Kristin Marshall said Police are currently reviewing all available CCTV from within the area in an attempt to identify the offenders.

"We are also asking for the local community to assist us in catching these criminals," she said.

"Anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity of persons and or vehicles in the area at the time are urged to contact Young Police Station or Crime Stoppers. 

"Any information could be useful to the investigation, even if it may have seemed insignificant at the time."
