The Witness asked a selection of people what the day meant to them.

Cadet Emma McIsaac:

The day means that we get to keep the ANZAC spirit alive and we get to remember all the soldiers that fought and died for our country.                                                                                                              

Cadet  Baye Bruce:

Anzac Day is a day to remember all the fallen soldiers but also the soldiers that have come back with wounds and that have a disability.

Pastor Adrian Single:

The great thing about Anzac day is that it gives us a chance to honour and respect those who have given their all and that have made the greatest sacrifice to make this the country that it is today and will continue to be thanks to people like them who continue to serve in our armed forces.

Young NSW ambulance inspector Stephen Pollard:

We always celebrate Anzac day here in Young with a good crowd and we should remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice so we can live a free life. I have a son in the military and he has served overseas and yes it is a daunting period, but we should thank them every single day of our lives for the freedom we enjoy.

Past secretary of Young RSL sub-branch Phillip Edwards:

Anzac Day is an important day because we are honouring all of those that I served with and unfortunately a lot of them have seen action during the Gulf and Afghanistan conflicts. It is really a day to think about the struggles they have gone through and continue to go through and that has continued for the last 100 years.
