Chairperson of the Young Sports Advisory committee Ben Cooper said the Awards Night is a fantastic forum to celebrate the success of Young’s sporting community.
“Recognising success is very important and allows everyone in the community to witness the exceptional sporting talent in the Cherry Capital,” Cooper said.
The night also recognises people who contribute to local sport with the Service to Sport and Continuing Service to Sport Awards.
“Without volunteers, our athletes don’t have the chance to exhibit and improve their talents,” Cooper said. “We have many brilliant volunteers in Young who contribute so much to local sporting bodies, our committee is determined to recognise these great locals who are the lifeblood of local sporting bodies.”
A recent addition to the Awards evening has been the creation of Young’s Sporting Walk of Fame which celebrates those locals who have achieved and contributed to sport at an exceptional level with a walk to be established later this year along Young’s sporting precinct and signs will be erected highlighting the amazing achievements of these talented locals.
In a huge win for the committee, local sporting hero and international cricket star Nathan Lyon has agreed to attend as the guest speaker for the night.
“We could not be happier having a local sporting legend like Nathan agree to speak, it will make the night very special,” Cooper said. “Many young people in town look up to Nathan as a hero and it will be great for them to hear about his road to success.”
“We welcome anyone interested in hearing Nathan speak and celebrating local sporting success to attend,” awards secretary Kere Mayo said.
The event will start at 6pm at the Young Golf Club. Tickets are available from the Young Services Club and cost $20 for primary school aged children and $30 for all others. There is limited room at the venue so people are encouraged to get in quick.
