“We had several visitors who joined in and had some coaching lessons early in the morning and then played several games with us as the day progressed,” Young Croquet Club publicity officer Doug Leabeater said.
“We were surprised to see how quickly they picked up the idea of the game and did so well.”
“It would be great to have them come and play more often and take up the game,” Mr Leabeater said.
Young Croquet Club meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings which are allocated as club days.
“If anyone would like to join us for more coaching or have a game, please come along, we start at 9 am,” Mr Leabeater said.
The annual fiveway challenge was held at Wagga last Sunday with four players attending from each club taking part. The clubs were Wodonga, Albury, Wagga, Walla Walla and Young. The four members playing for the Young club were Pat McIlhatton, Betty Douglas, Peter Druitt and Reigh McCoy. They all had a great day of croquet as well as plenty of good close games. Albury ended up winning the day by only one hoop with Young coming in as the runners-up.
