Under 16s
The Under 16s side had what could probably be considered its best performance of the year coming away as winners 52-6. The game started slowly giving Gundagai six straight sets and 30 tackles before Oliver Pettit pulled off a tackle that resulted in Gundagai dropping the ball, from the scrum Nick Hall ran the length of the field to score under the posts and the conversion made by Lucas turning the score 6-nil. From the kickoff Hall got on the outside of the defense passing it to Jenkins resulting in another try making the score 10-nil. Two more tries to Hall and Jenkins made the score 22-nil at half time. Coach Lucas said the team needed to keep doing the simple things right with the forwards doing their job it would make it simple for the backs to do their job. This was how they played their second half with tries to Tom Jenkins making it four for the day, one to Steven Anderson, Ned Evans and another to Nick Hall. Gundagai got one try which they converted. Jacob Lucas converted eight from nine tries making the final score 52-6. Cherrypickers under 16’s player’s player was Tom Jenkins closely followed by Nick Hall. A big welcome back to Will Hills who has finished his commitments in Canberra. Next week we play Albury who are the first team to beat us in a long time so we will be looking to redeem ourselves so get there early to see a great game of football. – Brad Pettit.
League tag
The score just didn't reflect the effort of the Cherryette's on the weekend, with nine players absent from the game this did not help. The first half demonstrated that the Cherryette's do have strong attack and demonstrated that they were able to move the ball around well, at half time the score being 16-6. However defence was lacking. Unfortunately the second half got away from us and we fell apart and only had the ball for one set that being in the twenty-second minute in which we weren't able to complete that set and gave the Brothers another opportunity. Team spirit was great, however playing such a quality side demonstrated that there is a lot of work needing to be done in defence. We look forward to improving on our defence for this weekends game. It is going to be tough and hard work and determination at training is going to be a key focus this week. We are playing Albury who are undefeated and coming together as a team and showing them what the Cherryette's can do. The weekend saw two players on their debut Emily Richens and Shelby Inwood both put in an outstanding performance and are ready to take on Albury. Elevations restaurants player’s player went to Claudia Graziani. – Jess McInerney.
Under 18s
Under new coaches this week, the under 18s Cherrypickers came out firing in the first half with tries from Jake Baker, Will Manwaring and Henry Berry. In the second half an early try was scored by Will Manwaring but after a few silly penalties from the pickers Brothers came back with a few tries. The 18s stayed positive and put their heads together to come back to score three tries at the end of the second half. A special mention to players Dom Scott, Will Hills, Jake Baker and Kye Tiedemann who got man of the match. – Steve Carrol.
