The Young and District Multicultural Association wanted to thank all members and guests who attended its Mother’s Day celebration.
All mothers present at the lunch were gifted with a small bouquet of chrysanthemum flowers from association member Mila's garden.
The Mother of the day awards: Junior category was awarded to Wadjeya and the Senior Mum Was awarded to Nanay Ester.
Parlour games were won by Tonie.
The highlight of the event according to the association was the performances by the Cootamundra Bollywood Allstars Dancers.
“What tasty and delicious savoury and sweet food was brought and shared,” Young and District Multicultural Association Incorporated’s Maria Hanrahan said.
“All enjoyed meeting and greeting old friends and new.”
Visitors traveled from Canberra, Grenfell, Cootamundra, Stockinbingal, Crowther, Yass and Young to attend the Mother’s Day luncheon.
“Thanks to Audrey who recently moved to Young from China in talking about her memories of what being a mother is in China,” Maria said.
“Such was the interest in China that Audrey's intended presentation continued with many questions from our members.
“Thanks to Inica and Fiona, the Cootamundra Bollywood All Stars in cultural costume for an entertaining dance performance, with the cement floor a challenge, but the challenge met beautifully.”
Members of the association, Mohommad and Ferna invited everyone to the Mosque Open Day on May 20 which will be an opportunity that has not been offered before to the community.
Cultures represented at our gathering were Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Austria, Afghanistan, Italy, China, Malaysia and Australia making the event truly multicultural.
“Thanks to Young North Primary School for the venue,” Maria said
“The partnership we have developed with Young North Primary is enriching for all with culture sharing at the school.
“We hope to also become involved with the Young High School in the future.”
At the Young and District Multicultural Association’s May meeting Harroon Mohammad from Young High School spoke offering and invitation to the association to be involved in culture sharing at the school.
The association along with the school will develop different activities that will enable students to understand and experience all the many different cultures involved within the association.
President of the Australian Philippine Cultural Group Irene Broad also addressed the meeting inviting members to attend and perform at a Gala Ball to be held in Temora on May 26.
Young and District Multicultural Association have many activities coming up including its Christmas in July event and a bus trip in September.
The association’s end of year function has yet to be decided.
“We want to grow our association, and as always invite the local community to become members of Young and District Multicultural Association, $10 individual, $15 family,” Maria said.
According to Maria, John Williamson sang it best in his song written by Seeker Bruce Woodley, ‘We are Australian.’
“He sang "we are one, but we are many, and from all the lands on earth we come, we share a dream, and sing with one voice, I am, you are, we are Australian.”
“Young and District Multicultural Association is about harmony friendship good will and diversity – join us.”
