The Young Saints were no match for the Bathurst Bushranger Outlaws in their AFL Central West clash at Burrangong Oval last Saturday.
Saints Coach Brad McKinnon said his team were in the match for the first two quarters but the Outlaws went on a goal shooting rampage after half-time to run out convincing winners 21-24-150 to Young Saints 2-3-15.
“We had a tough day against the Outlaws who out worked and out played us, their midfield got on top of us and overran us after the half time break, they really put the foot down and ran away as clear winners,” he said.
“The game showed that our players have a lot of work to do, and the only place we can do that is at training.
“We had some positives with a best on ground performance by Brandt Riley and Jason McKinnon who were both dominant in the backline and both went well through the middle.
“Jason Loader, Brodie Harmer, Brayden Harmer and Curtis Targget also gave notable performances on the day.”
McKinnon said this week’s game against the Rebels would be a good test for the Saints.
“The Rebels are going to be tough opponents but its supposed to be a wet match so that will hopefully suit our bigger bodies,” he said.
“We will have a big week on the track and we will get ready to go again.”
