Unfortunately for Young it was Albury who came away with the win.
The game started well for the home team when they took the lead through Lachie Jackson after just 5 minutes. Albury to hit back next though, grabbing two tries to take the lead 12-6. Through some good ball control and the team building pressure, Young crossed next to level things up at 12 all leading into half time.
The second half started off poorly for Young after giving Albury back to back sets which they capitalised on, running in two tries in 10 minutes.
Things didn't get much better from there and after having little possession, giving too many penalties away and allowing Albury to make easy metres through Young's line, Albury made the home team pay running in another four tries.The game ended with Albury embarrassing young 40-12. . – James Woolford (captain coach)
Reserve Grade
Young Reserve Grade took on the undefeated Albury on Saturday at Alfred oval.
The game started fast and it was Young who posted first points after only five minutes. Matt Murray made a break on half way, and off loaded to Brady Lestrange, to score to the left of the uprights. Young lead 4 to 0.
The next 10 minutes produced some torrid football, and only through a misjudgement in defence Albury were able to score and convert to take the lead 6 to 4 with only eight minutes left in the first half. Albury were able to post two more tries in four minutes. Halftime score was Albury 16 Young 4.
The second started as the first had finished with Albury posting another two quick tries. To the Cherrypickers credit they never gave up and were rewarded when speedster Riley Manwaring sliced through to score under the posts. Matt converted.
Coaches Greg and Cameron were pleased with the effort shown to post 10 points against a side that has only let in 16 points in its previous five outings.
The all important points in this year’s player’s player went to three players who up till now had not featured much in the scoring. Three points went to big Wais who had a great impact in front row. Brady Lestrage who handled the change in position to five eight extremely well, with the one point going to Riley Manwaring who produced some great penetrating runs at fullback.- Cameron Jones (manager)
Young’s under 16s came out firing from the first kick off. An outstanding kick from Jacob Lucas helped Josh Baker score in the corner. In the 15th min from a scrum on Young's line Tom Jenkins scooted away to run the length of the field to make the score 14 nil with conversion by Lucas. In the last minute of the half one quick pass by Baker to Jenkins resulted in another try. In the second half Young scored two more tries by Jack Rolfe and Nick Hall. Final score 30-12. The under 18s Cherrypickers muscled up in defence and attack resulting in a try by Jonah Potts. In the second half Brad Carroll scored and not long after that Manwaring darted down the side line to score. With only minutes remaining the Pickers got a penalty right in front of the posts, making it 20-12. It was a great win by the Pickers. Tries went to Jonah Potts, Brad Carroll and Will Manwaring.
