A male driver experienced a lucky escape on Tuesday afternoon after his ute collided with the Countrylink XPT train seven kilometers north of Cootamundra towards Wallendbeen.

About 3.00 pm on Tuesday May 23 ambulance crews were called from Cootamundra and Young to attend the scene where a male driver in a light truck collided with the XPT on a private property crossing.
The train continued for 200 meters before it came to a stop after the collision.
The male driver was assessed at the scene and only suffered minor injuries and declined being transported to hospital.
The driver of the train was also assessed and take to Cootamundra hospital for observation.
No passengers on the train were injured or needed to be evacuated.
A relief train driver was sourced from Junee and arrived at the scene at 5 pm when he assessed the damaged train before it was able to continue its journey to Sydney.
