On October 31, 2016, Young Fire and Rescue and other emergency services were called to a blaze at a house in Currawong St, Young.
Upon arrival they found the house was fully engulfed in flames, forcing brigade members to use breathing apparatus and hose reels to fight the fire.
A neighbouring residence received minor heat damage during the fire.
Cootamundra Local Area Command Detective Inspector Scott Wilkinson said investigations revealed the fire, which totally destroyed the house, was deliberately lit.
“On May 24, 2017, after extensive inquiries, Detectives from Young Police Station arrested a 25-year-old woman from Young,” he said.
“Police have charged her with Break, Enter and Steal, and Damage Property by Fire.
“She has been granted conditional bail and will appear at the Young Local Court on June 14, 2017.”
Detective Inspector Wilkinson said the woman was identified as a suspect during the investigation.
“Police will allege the woman acted alone in committing this crime,” he said.
“We will also allege that she did use an accelerant to light the fire.
“Police will also assert that the victim was known to her and it was a targeted attack."
Cootamundra LAC Acting Inspector Kristin Marshall said the arrest is the direct result of the hard work and determination of local Detectives.
