Election looming - Call for candidates

NSW Local Council Elections are on Saturday 9 September and voting is compulsory.

Hilltops Council General Manager Anthony McMahon said the September 9 election is an opportunity for voters and potential candidates alike, to be an active participant in guiding the future direction of the area.

"This will be the historic first election of the newly formed Hilltops Council and now is the time for would-be candidates to nominate," he said.

“As we move closer to the end of our time in administration and back to an elected Council, I’m proud to say that we’re charging full-steam ahead towards an exciting future for the entire region.

“Our region’s potential is vast; we need to harness the skills and talents of our residents to fulfil this potential through the creation of a council that is representative, forward-thinking, inclusive, committed, approachable and vibrant."

Cootamundra MP Katrina Hodgkinson said it was important that people vote in the local government elections.

“The great thing about living in a democracy is that everyone can have their say about local representation,” she said.

Ms Hodgkinson said any angst regarding the formation of the Hilltops council may dissipate once residents have elected local representatives.

"I think the community will appreciate the opportunity to engage with and provide feedback to their newly elected councillors from September," she said.

“It was important to have allowed time for Hilltops Council to establish as an amalgamated council, with the guidance of the local representative committees.

“As the administration process is now coming to a close, I encourage nominations from any individual interested in being a local voice on the Hilltops Council."
