Keen on the green for Keno

On Saturday the Young Golf Club held the local Keno Club qualifying sponsored by James and Christabel French with Darcy Whinam and Gary Anderson winning on +10.

Coming in a close second was Start Norton and Sam Langford on +8. Whinam, Anderson, Norton and Langford will represent Young Golf Club in the regional final in Young on Sunday July 9. Third place in the qualifier was Michael Slater and Ron Thompson who have earned themselves the position of first reserves.

There was a total of 14 pairs that entered the Keno qualifier but nearly 50 players took to the greens on the day. The local players should have an advantage in the regional final playing on their home course, the golf club wishes them well.

Sunday’s medley was won by James French from Konar Miller.

Monday the club held its Anzac Day event sponsored by Ian Tierney and Rick Oliver. There were almost 50 players who supported the event. Junior member Swayde Honeman won his first major event with 36 points from Matt Campbell on 35 points and Wayne Honeman in third on 35 points.

Sandy Pronk celebrated her birthday with her first win in a club competition on 36 points. She was heard to remark that she wished her age matched her stableford points. In second place was Marie Inwood on 34 points. Chris Keevil was third on a c/b on 34 points.

Thanks to everyone who made an effort to support the event.

The full results were in Tuesday’s Young Witness or can be found on the Young Golf Club’s website.

Next Saturday the Young Golf Club will hold a single stableford event sponsored by Craig Watson and Gavin Marshall.

There may also be a blind draw fourball aggregate stableford in conjunction with the event.

Sunday’s Young Golf Club medley will be a ball sweepstakes with the club also playing host to some pennant matches next Sunday.
