Local chemist Sarah Julian believes it is important for locals to consider being vaccinated against Influenza, especially the elderly, unwell or those at risk.

According to Ms Julian the flu vaccine is between 50 –60 percent effective.
“Sixty percent effective means there is less flu going around which is great for people that are at risk,” Ms Julian said.
At risk individuals according to NSW Health are people:
- aged 65 years and older,
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged six months to less than five years,
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are aged 15 years and over,
- Pregnant women,
- People aged six months and over with medical conditions such as severe asthma, lung or heart disease, low immunity or diabetes that can lead to complications from influenza.
NSW Health recommends individuals are vaccinated every year as the flu virus is constantly changing and as a result the vaccine changes every year too.
