After the recent meeting of the Hilltops Council's Local Traffic Committee, it was resolved by members to ask Police to address persistent traffic issues.
Cootamundra Traffic Highway Patrol’s Leading Senior Constable Pat Smith said Police would be focusing on Dangerous Driving on gravel roads in the area; vehicles parking in designated 'No Stopping' zones and Vehicles parking too close to intersections in Young.
"Police request that if they witness dangerous driving on gravel roads, they contact Young Police Station, report the driving complaint and if possible provide registration numbers of the vehicles involved," he said.
"Police will be taking action if vehicles are parked in designated 'No Stopping' zones especially in the vicinity of Young High School in Campbell St, Young. The following fines will be applied; Disobey no stopping sign (in a school zone) $325 + 2 demerit points and 'Stop in bus zone' (in a school zone) $325 + 2 demerit points.
"If vehicles are parking too close to intersections in Young and within the minimum distance allowable of 10 metres we will be issuing fines. Relevant offences include; Stop within 10 metres of intersection $253 + 0 demerit points.
Cootamundra LAC Acting Inspector Kristin Marshall said to meet the expectations of the community, the issues raised will be addressed by local Police at Young and Cootamundra Traffic and Highway Patrol in the coming days and weeks.
“Police won’t tolerant drivers hooning on gravel roads or disobeying traffic signs,” she said.
"Road safety is paramount. Our number one priority is that our road users arrive home safely to their families at the end of the day.
"Please be warned... Police will issue infringement notices if road rules are being broken."
