Local residents I am sure that, like all of us, know the damage that can be done to livestock with the indiscriminate use of fireworks is unacceptable, fun or not.
Race one
The first race on the programme started with a bang when a number of runners attempted to secure the best possible position in the early stages of the race causing a ripple effect that took the favourite and a couple of other runners virtually out of the race.
The eventual winner, Peggyville driven by Natyhan Hurst defeated Line My Pockets with the locally trained Arrived In Time for Nic Dewar running a good race, second up from a spell to run third in a mile rating of 1:58 for the 1720 m event.
Race two
The second race of the night resulted in a win for the Junee trained pacer Untitled driven by Brad Hewitt defeating the more fancied Lethal Promise and Doc Hosen Berry in another fast run race with the winner recording a near track record time of !56.8.
Race three
The most popular and no doubt rewarding win of the night was handed in by Mah Koo Loo Queen who led at the bell under excellent driving from visiting driver Peter McRrae and held on to record an impressive win over another local pacer in Sway driven by Ellen Rixon with Bettorbetbig for Tony Turner and Cameron Hart.
The mile rating again was well up with a slick 1:8.4 posted by the judge for the 1720 metre journey.
Race four
Bathurst free lance driver John O’Shea again handed in a sterling effort behind the Josh Turnbull trained Timmy May who defeated Coola Bar Boy and the ever consistent Forest Fury who set the pace for the majority of the race but unfortunately found the winning post too far away with the eventual winner recording a winning mile rate of 2:001.9.
Race five
Joint favourites in race five fought out the finish with Amanda Turnbull trained Jonah Jones driven by visiting driver Stephanie Lippiatt getting the upper hand over the locally trained Ned Pepper with Huge Attitude driven by Cameron Hart taking third in an exciting Rising Star Invitational event.
Race six
Ellen Rixon showed her experience when she gave The Kiss Principle every opportunity in race six to score an impressive 6¼ metre victory over Rocknroll Tune and Always At Night.
Leading at the bell with slow quarters of 31.3 and 32.5 the Pheasants Nest concession driver sprinted the final two quarters in 28.6 and 29.6 and a mile rating overall of just 2:04.5.
Race seven
The shortest priced favourite of the night appeared in race seven when the Brad Hewitt trained and driven My Casino Belle ($1.10) set a solid pace throughout to post an impressive twenty-nine metre win over Fastestgirlintown and Always Suzie trained at Young by Venessa Benett.
The mile rating of 1:56.3 under a strong hold was a highlight of the nights racing with the winner reportedly recently purchased for a six figure sum.
Race eight
The second of the odds on favourites was never in danger with Bathurst mentor Bernie Hewitt presenting Brads Luck in fine fettle to take out race eight.
Following an impressive win at Bathurst last time out, the two-year-old gelding ran an un-extended mile rating of 2:00 in defeating Sevendaysaweek for Matthew Harris while the locally trained Lovethatfeeling caught the eye with a nice third for Nic Dewar and her group of local owners.
Next meeting
Young will race again on Friday night June 30, the start of the school holidays with the Harness Breeders NSW Princess Series Pace for two-year-old fillies the feature race of the program.
