Residents have inundated the Young Police station with complaints about fireworks being let off at various locations around town.
Acting Inspector Kristin Marshall said the Police investigation into the discharge of illegal fireworks in Young escalated after a number of tips from the public.
“Police acted on a complaint that a person was throwing fireworks from a vehicle at the intersection of Lovell and Main Street and commenced inquiries with the registered owner of the vehicle,” she said.
“The driver of the vehicle nominated a store in Young where he purchased the pop pop type fireworks, and we went to that store, and pop pop’s or bunger’s were seized. Police are still investigating, but it is expected legal action will be taken at the conclusion of our inquiries.”
Acting Inspector Marshall said Police are also investigating a man who is allegedly selling larger fireworks from the back of his truck at licensed premises in Young.
Police have asked that anyone with information regarding the sale or the discharge of illegal fireworks in Young contact the station on 02 6382 8199.
