A lot of the Young players backed up from second grade and with some early injuries, the Young side struggled to compete with one of the front running sides in the competition but fought courageously through to the final whistle.
The first twenty minutes was closely contested as both teams fought to dominate their opposition with Hall scoring early but the Yabbies bouncing back when Hagon Williams crashed over after good lead-up from the pack.
With the score locked at 7-5 the Young team appeared to be gaining the upper hand as their backline of Michael Stallard, Harry Warrick and Dom Philpot were finding gaps and making good inroads into Hall territory.
Sadly, the points wouldn’t come with players stopped just short of the line, a dropped pass or a turn over cruelly robbing the local side of points.
From this initial attack by Young, the Bushrangers regathered their composure and managed to run in three more tries before the break to have a comfortable lead of 26-5.
A positive start by the Yabbies in the second half was thwarted a number of times by the Hall side as they defended stoutly to stop the locals from scoring.
Then, powerhouse lock forward, Jack Mullany was forced from the field with a shoulder injury further adding to the Yabbies injury list.
Hall was starting to run the tiring Young side around the paddock and were able to get outside the defence to score the first try of the second half.
Again the Yabbies hit back and were unlucky not to post points when Ben Simmons was caught just shy of the line.
The Bushrangers continued to test the defensive line with wide passes to their outside backs who piled on another three tries to secure the match 54-5 (H. Williams try).
Tries:
H Williams – 1.
Players player and points:
Best for Young were Ben Simmons 3 points, Jack Mullany 2 points and Harry Warrick 1 point. Warrick was also player’s player.
