Pettitt is a versatile shooter who has the ability to shoot at varying distances and positions in the circle.
The Young and District Netball Association organised the Netball clinics which are designed to encourage kids to have a go, enjoy their netball and inspire them to work hard and believe their dream of playing for Australia can become a reality.
Mrs Pettitt, who has been conducting clinics throughout NSW for the past 10 years and coached over 10,000 children in the skills of netball, said she enjoys the interaction with junior players in country towns.
“I think it is important to come out to areas like Young and take them through some sessions, it is great to get kids outside and active and running amok,” she said.
“All the skills we cover are about hand and eye coordination so the basic techniques of netball, but they can be transferred into all types of sports, our main aim is to get the kids outside and having fun.”
Young Public School student Elizabeth Hall said she thought the clinic was important because of its netball focus.
“The clinics are important because in Young we don’t get the same opportunities as kids in the city and in this town it’s all about the Rugby (league) we want more netball in our town,” she said.
“It's great to have Susan here, and it's great for our kids to get the chance to be active and healthy through netball.”
The Young and District Netball Association’s Melinda Hambrook said they were excited to welcome Susan to coach Association and Young school players.
“The Association is aiming to promote the sport of netball in all schools in Young,” she said.
“We believe it is important to nurture junior players and encourage them to participate in the sport.
“The Association has worked closely with Susan to get her to Young, and we appreciate her involvement and her enthusiasm for coaching junior netball.”
