Race one
The opening race resulted in a win for local owners Josh and Chloe Powderly with their recently acquired Bettors Delight gelding Stylish Trend.
Starting at the lucrative odds of $21.70 on the NSW TAB driver Matt Rue led at the bell and held on to defeat a determined $1.80 favourite in Haka Shannon with the outsider Eye Carly claiming third for Parkes trainer Kasey Hocking.
Race two
Canberra trainer John Cooper handed the driving duties to Matt Rue in race two and again, after leading at the bell, he drove a well judged race behind Blitz Em Wendy, who had been well supported to start second favourite at $4.80.
Placegetters Allnight Mlady and Rekindled Luck tried in vain to run the leader down in the straight but found the winning post too close over the concluding stages.
Race three
Leeton trainer Chris Hughes made the long trip to the cherry capital but was rewarded with a close win with the grey pacer All Together Betta who arrived just in time to defeat Bally Barfly and $2.60 favourite Mako Bay for Glenn Wilmot.
Race four
The judge was again kept busy in race four when the David Druitt driven, lightly raced three-year-old, Protect My Shadow held off Twentyeightblack and Miss Aeyla in a very close photo in which the judge posted a narrow nose winning margin with a neck separating second and third.
Favourite in the race, first starter Lucy Rose $1.50 raced well back in the race to finish eighth.
Race five
Driver Matt Rue continued his good form guiding the striking chestnut Our Castanea $1.80 to victory in race five.
Trained by Kenneth Rue at Bathurst, the Browning Blue Chip six-year-old, the lightly raced pacer was impressive in defeating Hijacked and the locally trained four year old Bettorbetbig for Tony Turner and Nic Dewar.
Race six
Redbank Lodge Harness Breeders NSW Princess Series Heat brought together a good field of two-year-olds for race six over the sprint 1720 m event.
Bathurst trainer, driver Amanda Turnbull presented another first starter in New Zealand bred Bettors Delight filly in Alex Pollizzi and in a well timed run gave her backers $1.30, no need for concern in defeating Sibby and second favourite Miss Elly May $7.70 for Mirrrool mentor Stephen Maguire.
Race seven
In a roughly run affair, Canberra pacer Monivae recorded a nose victory over Geronimo Beau with a similar distance between second and third with Padrisimo gaining the minor prize and another Canberra pacer in Huge Attitude $2.70 running an unlucky fourth for Mellissa Hawke.
Race eight
The scratching of the expected favourite in Whosashadylady, the race was indeed there to be won and John Vautin took the opportunity to collect the first prizemoney cheque of $3,000 with his Riverboat King five-year-old mare Oceans In The Sky.
Blake Micallef drove another confident race behind the resuming mare Crusty to finish second, Blake continuing that form at Dubbo on Sunday, finishing second and third respectively with Our Apache Miss and Rocknroll Queen.
Third placing in the race went to favourite Blackmagic Shannon $3.10 and with the climate reducing some patrons to almost freezing point, the curtain came down on another successful meeting.
The Young club will race again this Friday with another night meeting before reverting to two afternoon meetings on July 14 and July 21.
Fields and selections for that meeting will appear Friday’s issue of The Young Witness.
