Boorowa man given conditional discharge

JOHN FRANK LEAH of Boorowa received a conditional discharge on a 12 month bond for low range PCA in Young Local Court last week after he blew 0.061 on April 30. The 71-year-old plead guilty to the charge on June 16 when the matter was adjourned so Mr Leah could attend the traffic offenders program before the matter appeared in front of Magistrate Michael O’Brien on July 4 when the charge was finalised.
Convicted and fined in defendant’s absence
STEPHEN PAGE of Young was convicted and fined in Young Local Court for driving with illicit drugs present in oral fluid despite his continued failure to appear for the matter. The 38-year-old was convicted, fined $400 and disqualified from driving for six months. Page was stopped by police at about 12.40 pm Monday February 27 in Young for a random breath test. Page passed the breath test and was then subjected to an oral fluid test that produced a positive detection for cannabis. Page was arrested and taken to Young Police Station where he stated, ““I’m trying to give it up since I got done the other month.”
Grenfell woman fined twice for driving while suspended
GRACE LOUISE WRIGHT, 19, was convicted by Magistrate O’Brien in Young Local Court in her absence for driving while her licence was suspended. The Grenfell woman was also fined $300 and disqualified from driving for 12 months. About 10.50 pm on Tuesday June 27 police pulled Wright over in Cootamundra to conduct a random breath test. Wright was asked to produce a driver’s licence to which she replied, “I don’t have one.” Police questioned her to which she said, “I’m suspended.” Wright was issued with a suspension notice on May 25, 2017. She stated she had driven from Albury and was going to her mother’s house in Grenfell. She was informed that she would not be able to continue driving.
Wright was also convicted ex parte, fined $300 and disqualified for a further 12 months from driving for the incident on May 25. About 3.20 pm police in Greenthorpe pulled Wright over for a random breath test. Wright was asked to produce a valid drivers licence to which she replied, “I don’t have one I just got stopped in Young and I have been suspended.” She then produced to police a suspension notice issued on the same day. Police inquired as to why she was driving after being suspended she stated, “I have no other way of getting home.”
