Fine, clear conditions combined with exciting racing and close finishes was certainly the right recipe for an afternoon of top class entertainment at the Young Paceway last Friday afternoon. Racing opening with Wendy Turnbull trained three year old filly Way Up ($4.20) driven by Emma Turnbull outstaying the more fancied My Molly Diva ($1.70) driven by Neil Day with In Our Dreams ($11.40) finishing third. The mile rating of 2:02.6 and a winning margin of 2 and a half metres set the scene for what was the start of some very good racing throughout the day. In the second race, John O'Shea continued his good form on the Lester Hewitt trained five year old Our Braxton ($1.50) who recorded his second win from as many starts on the Young track. Another slick winning mile rate of 1:59.4 was almost identical to his previous win here but on this occasion his stamina was truly tested by runner up Holy Camp Clive ($3.50) and third place getter Diesel Shannon ($17.10). The continued support of well backed performers continued in race three with Lucky Lyla ($1.80) scoring a convincing 5 and a quarter metre victory over rank outsider Jackeroo Shannon ($58.90) and the locally trained Awaiting The Dream ($13.00) for John Vautin. The most vocal winning performance of the afternoon was indeed in race four when Cowra trainer driver Luke Harper fought out a very tight finish before his five year old gelding Mister Bee Ay ($36.40) claimed a narrow nose victory over the more fancied Yanco pacer Keep Quiet ($2.90) with Miss Fifi ($4.40) a half a neck away in third place. No sooner had the judge clear the lens than another close finished presented itself in race five. Goulburn trainer Sam Hewitt drove a well judged race coming from fourth at the bell with the Blissfull Hall eight year old gelding Doc Hosen Berry ($1.80) to snatch victory by the narrowest of margins, the judge posting a nose advantage over Doctor Feld ($4.70) and early leader Ball Barfly ($4.20) being just two metres away in third place. A convincing winning margin was still not forthcoming when Shane Hillier and Blake Jones combined in race six with the Mach Three gelding Our Memphis Mac ($3.90) who defeated Innocent Crocker ($1:80) and polemarker Ticket Outa Here ($9.80). The winning margin of just half a neck was exciting to say the least, with a more convincing six metre margin separating the minor placings. Leading local driver in the current point score system, Nic Dewar showed his ability to find a spot in running to record another win with Jeremes Jet four year old Arrived In Time ($12.10) in the final race of the day. He was able to secure the win over Whos Driving ($3.30) and Poppy Cee ($8.60).
