The Young side traveled to Temora in what was a must win game to stay in second position on the ladder. Without Ray Talimalie Matt Murray slipped into half-back for the first time this year. Coming off a bye Young players knew how important the game was.
The first-half started on point for the Pickers with Will Scott crossing the line and Jesse Corcoran converting. A few errors and a penalty to the Pickers lead to Temora scoring out wide before Will Scott broke through the defence to score the Picker’s second try. Corcoran scored another try which was converted before Tui Somoa and Corcoran both scored again close to half-time.
Captain/coach James Woolford was happy with the score at half-time but didn’t like the silly errors the boys were making on the field.
The second-half started with Temora scoring a soft try followed by more mistakes from the Young team which were only rectified by a forward pass by Temora. Woolford scored from dummy-half. Young made the most of Temora’s mistakes with Woolford and Corcoran joining forces to cross the line again. Temora then scored an easy try, scoring again three minutes later. Young seemed to fall asleep in the final 10 minutes but the Pickers scraped through to win 42-30.
Young gained the two points they needed to hold onto second place on the ladder.
Tries:
- Jesse Corcoran – 3
- Will Scott – 2
- Tui Somoa – 1
- James Woolford – 1
Jesse Corcoran converted seven goals.

Reserve Grade
Young reserve grade travelled to Temora to take on the Third placed Dragons on Sunday. This was a must win for Young if they were to make this year’s final series.
Young started the game full of intensity ,and completed their first five sets with the ball as well producing some punishing defence, to show the much favoured Dragons that they were going to be no push over’s.
Temora Managed to score the first try, totally against the run of play, when a kick to the corner was snatched up by their centre who raced eighty metres to score. The same centre scored again a few minutes later, when he somehow managed to get an arm free near the line and slam the ball down. Young hit straight back just on the stroke of half time when Jake Norton and Mick Stallard combined to produce a hole in Temora’s defence, and send Thomas Woolford over for a four pointer. Behind 10 to 4 Young went into the sheds looking to be getting the better of the Dragons team.
The first five minutes of the second half the Cherry pickers continued to pressure Temora until poor discipline crept in to the side. Young gave away a number of penalties at crucial times in the game, and Temora to their credit the Dragons capitalised on this to produce three quick try’s and take command of the game.
With Eight minutes to go in the game Temora was leading 26 points to 4 when Young’s Dale Prindable was knocked out in a solid tackle, and with fears from the training staff about a possible neck injury, an Ambulance was called and the game was called off. Dale was taken to wagga base hospital for scans and on last reports looks like he will make a full recovery.
Young’s points for the game were 3 to Mick Stallard, who produced a great five eight’s game in both attack and defence, 2 to Brady Lestrange at fullback constantly defusing a relentless bombing attack from Temora, and 1 point to Jacob Norton at half back who defended like a forward while displaying silky ball skills in attack.

18s
After a week off, the 18's were out to prove something in round 15 against the dragons. Coming back from a bad loss to top of the table south city, the pickers were out to prove they can still be final contenders for this years weissel cup.
It was a bit slow for the 18s in the first with Temora leading 18-4 at half time, but in the second they gave Temora a thumping winning the game 42-18. It was a great effort by the boys. This weekend they take on 6th place Brothers at home.

League tag
The weekend’s game against Temora, saw a very exciting first half both teams having equal possession and demonstrating the same level of skill. The half time score being 10-4 Temora’s way – with a try to Ally Smith. The second half lacked intensity therefore Temora were able to take advantage of what was in front of them. The Cherryette’s surely demonstrated that they are certainly contenders in Group 9 and after a year of development watch this space. Bridget Maloney scoring a great try in the second half to take the final score to 8 – 32. Elevations Players players were Annie Turner & Shelby Inwood.
