Racing opened with Hilltops Equine Centre Pace over 2100 m and resulted in a popular win for 17-year-old Blake Micallef who drove an excellent race behind the four-year-old mare Crusty for owners and proud parents Rachael and David. The veteran of fifty race starts scored a narrow but convincing half head margin over the more fancied Whoestolemypidgeon driven by Amy Day and the Bathurst trained Siotada for Nathan Hurst. The mile rating of 2:03.1 was a creditable performance.
Nathan Turnbull and Monica Betts combined in the second race of the night with the six-year-old Snoop Stride who improved on his third placing here last meeting to defeat the Peter Schiller trained Arrived In Time driven by Nic Dewar and the well supported So Kool Master with another creditable mile rating of 2:03.8 recorded by the Stonerbridge Regal veteran of 121 starts.
Local trainer Katie Jenner struck again for the locals when Angela Hedge set a solid pace throughout with Always At Night who jumped to the lead from gate two, hanging on in the straight to record a head win over Gold Onyx and polemarker Blackmagic Shannon for Peter Bullock and McKayler Barnes.
Georges Plains trainer Gemma Hewitt was narrowly beaten here last week by Spanish Lustre and was keen to make amends with Lorne Beach. This she did when Douglass Hewitt secured another close but convincing win over Abercrombie Tab and the more fancied polemarker Resounding who was a recent Leeton winner for Blake Jones and Shane Hillier.
Bathurst trainer John Vautin presented the lightly raced filly Awaiting The Dream in race five in fine fettle and did not let his supporters down with an impressive win. Coming from midfield at the four hundred, the Tell All three-year-old won by an impressive 6.5 m margin.
The most impressive win of the night was in race six when the Grenfell trained Rekindled Luck overcame some interference mid race to record a comfortable 15¼ win over the much improved Diamond Thief.
The final race of the night was aptly named the Trimech Refrigeration Pace and patrons were in no doubt that the time had come to vacate the paceway post haste. The favourite Innocent Crocker recorded a 6 ¾ m win over Lombo Yankee Invada and Taylor Khan in the fastest winning mile rate for the night of 2:00.7.
Young will race again on Friday night August 24 followed by a meeting on Friday night September 1.
