“They’re always doing it,” she said. “I know they do it elsewhere too, but it has to stop.”
Ms Holmre and her young family have had many a nights sleep disturbed by the hoons who spin up rocks and dirt.
“It tears up the road way and one of these days we’re worried a rock will come flying through our front window or worse a car,” Ms Holmre said.
The family has been in contact with police many times over the past few weeks voicing their concerns and reporting drivers who have come very close to crashing through the front fence of their property.
“I can’t understand why they think it’s ok?” she said.
Ms Holmre has two small children who have been woken up during the night because of the cars.
“They’re always stopping out the front of our place before they spin the wheels and take off,” she said.
Ms Holmre understands that the showground can’t be closed up of a night due to the RV stop near the entrance but believes that something should be done.
According to Ms Holmre when she contacted the police about the CCTV cameras at the showground she was informed that they were not working correctly.
“There has to be something they can do, surely. I know we’re not alone and they do this thing in other areas of town, but this is our area and it needs to stop,” she said.
Sergeant Paul Colefax from Young Police Station said more people need to come forward and be prepared to go to court if there is to be a change in this type of behaviour.
According to Sergeant Colefax for an arrest or charges to be laid individuals need to make sure they can identify the vehicle through number plates and specific markings or features of the vehicles, he also said that they need to contact police straight away.
“Report it when it’s happening,” he said.
“We need witnesses that are prepared to come forward. We need registrations and people prepared to go to court.”
They may not always be able to get there straight away, but he wants to assure the public that action is being taken in stopping the illegal and highly dangerous driving.
