On Saturday the final of the SWDBA Champion of Club Champions Pairs saw a clear–cut victory to Mike Barber and Ron Johnson from Cootamundra Country Club. They defeated Des and Chris Grimson from Boorowa Ex–Services 23–9.
The winners will contest the Zone 8 section of this competition at Young on September 16 and 17.
Both semi–finals of the Club Triples were completed on Saturday with two contrasting games.
In one game Damien Miller, Brian Madden and Dave Quigley were opposed to Rod Cummings, Peter Slater (substitute) and Col Chapman. Dave’s team won the first 7 ends and scored 18 shots. They went on to win the game 31–9.
The other game saw James Freudenstein, Colin Powell (substitute) and Graeme Edgerton win 8 of the first 9 ends against Bill Maloney, James Maloney and Cliff Traynor to lead 11–2. Cliff’s team then found their range and after 20 ends they had levelled the score at 13–all. The scores were level at 15–all after 24 ends and Cliff’s team scored 2 shots on the final end to win 17–15.
Despite the chilly conditions on Saturday there were 18 players nominating for Jackpot Bowls. Ted Loader and Denis Rosen won the vouchers sponsored by Penrose Funerals when they won their game by 19 shots.Other teams to win were Mark Brownlie and Colin Stokell (9); Alan Gall and Tom Preston (17); Garry Fish, Albert Carter and John Cooper (5).
There was a very cold start on Sunday but then conditions were cold but sunny. Fourteen players were on the green and the winners for the morning were Chris Wright and Albert Carter who scored 14 points.
There were windy conditions on Thursday afternoon with 18 players involved. Phillip Hewson and Ted Loader were the winners for the day with a margin of 15 shots.
On Saturday the SWDBA Champion of Club Champions will be decided at the club with Damien Miller to play the winner from Cootamundra Country Club.
