A gentle breeze and sunny skies greeted both teams as Leeton kicked the ball off.
Unfortunately Young knocked on and Leeton gained control of the game as Young were a bit shell shocked with the pace of the game.
Leeton were up 25 nil in the blink of an eye as they ran out wide around Young’s defence.
Young weren’t playing badly, Leeton were on fire, capitalising on any mistake and applying plenty of pressure at the breakdown.
Young started to muscle up and with some brutal defence by Lucas Maloney, Dean Starling and Trent Sheen who busted their guts all day, we finally got over the advantage line giving one of the yabbies best Josh Cameron the opportunity to bust his way through from halfway and get Young on the scoreboard with two barnstorming tries before half time to give the boys some hope.
The yabbies came out firing in the second half as Riley Butcher smashed the Leeton runners, great clean out by Billy Davis who was having the game of his life and Max Shea gave Young more ball as Nick Canellis had the ball flying around in all directions as Young played with a sense of freedom and fun playing a very entertaining game of rugby for the sold out game.
The spectators were in frenzy as this was a brutal game with some ferocious hits and definitely not for the faint hearted.
Both teams were not taking a backward step until Nate Reid took a massive tackle which had him flying like Superman, better men would have come off the field but Nate ran through the Leeton team to score a very determined inspiring try.
Play went from end to end and for Sam Schilt not to score a try speaks volumes about Leetons defence as he left a trail of destruction in his amazing mesmerizing weaving runs but we couldn’t finish them off.
Billy Brown was as strong as ever as he and his team mates tackled themselves to a standstill.
With the last play of the day, Young had a scrum on their own try line and with some beautiful quick hands Toby Dowling scored one of his trademark tries as he weaved his magic and showed his blistering speed to score Young’s last try.
Although we didn’t get the win on the day we achieved so much more throughout the year and finished in style.
Awesome performance, hold your heads up high on the way you have played, always tough but fair and you have all represented your club and Young in the highest of regard. Great Year Boys!
