It was imperative for the Pickers to play some good football to be a chance, but the Tigers were too good for the us with Young losing 48-4.
Young started well but weren’t making the metres and Gundagai scored two tries in the first 10 minutes of the game after some bad defence from the Pickers.
Young couldn’t complete their sets with lots of errors made and penalties to Gundagai that allowed them to score freely.
Coach Woolford wasn’t happy during half-time and he stressed to the side the need to complete its sets and lift themselves to get back in the game.
Gundagai’s momentum kept up in the second half with a couple of penalties going their way, Young were starting to get tired, especially the front rowers with the amount of work they were doing.
Gundagai scored more tries in the second half and the game can only be described as the Pickers worst defeat of the year. Matt Murray scored Young’s only try. The Pickers get another chance in Young on Saturday when they face off against Tumut at Alfred Oval. - Paul Ashton
16s- The Cherrypickers played Gundagai last Sunday and were beaten 32 to 24. The first half Gundagai lead 10-0. Young hit back though Jack Rolfe straight after half time to make the score 10-4 but the next 20 minutes Gundagai put on four tries to lead 32-4 then Young got some pride about themselves and scored four tries in 10 minutes. Tries to Tom Jenkins, Henry Berry and Will Hills (2) with Jacob Lucas kicking two goals to make the score 32-24. Young made their run too late and ran out of time, now the Cherrypickers go in to a sudden death play-off with Cootamundra. Next Saturday at 9-30 they will need all the support they can get.- Brad Pettit
18s – On Saturday the boys were up against Tumut at Twickenham Oval. The game was an elimination final and the boys had a lot to play for. It was a close first half with two tries a piece and the half time score was 12-10. Coaches, Tui Samoa and Saul Lealaitafea implored the boys to come out ready to win in the second half, which is what they did. Will Manwaring busted through the defence line to get our first try of the second half and with Young getting a great roll on they managed to come away winners and will now take on Kangaroos this Saturday at Alfred oval. The game is a must win for the boys to get into the grand final. Try scorers were Will Manwaring, Nic Maloney , Kye Tiedeman, Will Cannellis. With great defence and attack from Nick Maloney and Brad Carroll. – Steve Carroll
