The town hung out to dry

Memorials to the war dead are possibly the most enduring structures in rural Australia. But other regular devastations, flood, bushfire, cyclone and accident, are mordantly celebrated: the far north Queensland sugar town of Gordonvale, ground zero for the release of cane toads, today marks that catastrophe with a cane toad-themed playground in the main street.
