Now the footy season has wrapped up its time for locals to oil their bats and pace out their run-ups as cricket competitions are about to get under way.

Young and District Cricket Association secretary Kelly Meddings said online registrations are open now.
"If people head to playcricket.com and search Young Junior Cricket they can register now online for Milo In2Cricket, T20 Blast and junior cricket," she said.
"This season we are looking at running Milo and Blast on Monday afternoons from 5 to 6.30pm at Keith Cullen oval for an eight-week program running from October 16 to December 4.
"These programs are $99 per child and include Milo kits for Milo and Blast kits for Blast kids along with free junior rego for those eligible to play both."
Miss Meddings said Juniors are running under 11's, Under 13's and Under 16's this year.
"The under 16's will play a combined competition between Young, Cootamundra, Temora and Ariah Park which is a very exciting development for this age group as it will greatly increase the number of kids playing, " she said.
"It will increase the number of teams competing and provide a greater level of competition for this age group as they progress into senior cricket or onto higher levels of representative cricket.
"The junior committee has also been taken over by the senior cricket committee this season which provides better flow of communication and hopefully a greater number of volunteers. This will also hopefully mean a smoother transition for kids progressing out of juniors and into senior cricket."
Miss Meddings said senior sides would be more than willing to give junior players a run this season.
"Junior players can contact me or one of the members of the committee to be put directly in contact with captains of the senior sides," she said.
"There is a free coaching course running soon in Harden on Monday, October 9 from 5.30pm to 9.30pm.”
Miss Meddings said an Under 16's team from Blacktown will tour here in the September school holidays.
“The team arrive on September 26 and will be assisting with running junior come and try clinics for Milo, Blast and Juniors at Keith Cullen Oval," she said.
“They will also play against a South West Slopes Cricket League Invitational 11 on September 27 and 28. Great things are happening this year, we are excited and want to see the biggest number of registrations ever to help celebrate an Ashes year."
