After only announcing a few months ago that he would contest all five rounds of the 2017 V8 Kumho Series McCorkindale has taken out the fourth round of the event as the first Australian to win in Supercars, Porsche's and 410 Sprintcars.
McCorkindale was sitting in fourth place in the race at Phillip Island before he plowed through his competition to win in only a lap and a half.
With only one round to go McCorkindale is currently coming in second in the cup standings only 53 points behind the leader – Michael Anderson on 493 and fourth in the championship standings.
So far this year McCorkindale came in fourth in round one of the series at Phillip Island in April, sixth at Winton Raceway in round two when the series met up with the Supercars, tenth at Queensland Raceway in round three, of course followed up with his win at Phillip Island.
The final round of the V8 Kumho series will be held in Sydney Motorsport Park on October 27-29 which means that McCorkindale is still in with a chance to take out the series.
The 26-year-old racer is running a privateer team with no backing from a major team for the series.
“It’s our first full year with the series, so we’re not setting any unrealistic expectations, we’re just aiming to learn as much as we can and be as competitive as possible, while hopefully pushing for a top-five result,” McCorkindale said back in April.
McCorkindale’s team also includes V8 Supercars heavy weight Dean Canto.
“Dean has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to Supercars and we couldn’t be happier to have him on board as race engineer this year,” McCorkindale said.
