Mr and Mrs Leabeater were married on September 7, 1957 on a rainy day in Neville NSW. The pair met at a ball in Woodstock and were in a relationship for three years before they married.
“Everyone was asking what we were getting married for,” Mr Leabeater said.
“They said, you’re so young – we were 22,” Mrs Leabeater said.
The pair are now 82, have two children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr and Mrs Leabeater had a party to celebrate their diamond anniversary with family and friends in attendance, however the biggest surprise they received were the cards and well wishes from the Queen, the Governor-General and the Prime Minister.
When asked what their secret to a happy marriage Mrs Leabeater said, “don’t argue. We don’t argue, we have discussions.”
“We always help each other, even with the kids,” Mr Leabeater said.
