The conditions on Saturday were just a bit tricky with a gusty and cool wind for most of the afternoon.
Twenty–six players took part and there were some very close contests.
Two teams – Milan Brankovic, David Donges and Ian Schofield, and Ted Loader and David Ward – won their games by 9 shots. After a count–back the triples combination won the Penrose Funerals sponsored vouchers.
Three teams won their games by 3 shots – Albert Carter and Mark Anderson, John Cooper and Peter Slater and Steve Walsh and Brian Madden. The other winning team consisted of Darryl Miller and Tom Preston who had a 2 shot margin.
There were just 8 players on Sunday morning. Peter Berry and Bill Standen had the best score for the morning with 15 points.
On Sunday afternoon 24 players enjoyed an afternoon of mixed bowls associated with the NRL Grand Final. Unfortunately few players wore their favourite club’s football uniform and the number of mixed teams was restricted due to men outnumbering women.
Play consisted of two games of three bowl pairs.
The teams with two wins were Kevin Bryant and Colin Stokell (21 shot margin), Stewart Taylor and Kate Cooper (13), Ann Gardner and John Cooper (11) and Trevor Howell and Kevin Porter (10).
Thanks to the sponsors of this event – Stewart Taylor, Frank O’Brien, Kevin Bryant and Stuart Freudenstein – most of whom have been involved for the past three years.
Thanks also to those members of the club who helped with the barbecue and to Colin Powell for his work in organising the afternoon.
Players should note that the schedule of games for the Club Fours is on the notice board. Also, information concerning the Minor Singles and Mixed Pairs championships is on the board. Details of the Guy Pickering Charity Challenge are on display at the club.
