“I was struggling to hold in the tears in the last couple of laps, but I got it under control,” Reynolds told Fox Sports after the race.
The Albury born supercar driver had told the Border Mail earlier in the week he was hoping for a top-three result at Bathurst.
“I think the car looks great, and it’s exciting to be able to show off Penrite’s heritage,” Reynolds said.
“Bathurst is Australia’s biggest motor racing event and you can’t get any more Australian than this.”
“For a bloke who races once a year he’s not bad,” Reynolds said of Youlden.
“We have had this same core team for a while now, I love this sport for working with them and I love my job for working with them. It just makes it so enjoyable.
“I have been wanting to pay them back but we haven’t had a lot of luck so this is now the icing on the cake.”
Following Reynolds over the finish line was Scott Pye and Warren Luff from Walkinshaw Racing and Fabian Coulthard and Tony d’Alberto from DJR Team Penske in third place.
A wet race
All eyes are on Mount Panorama this morning as 26 cars take to the track for the 2017 Bathurst 1000.
Scott McLaughlin and Alexandre Premat will start the race in pole position after McLaughlin set a record breaking lap in the top 10 shootout on Saturday afternoon.
Will being on pole help them finish the race in first position at the end of 161 laps?
In the past few years the winners have come from outside the Top 10 including in 2014 when Chaz Mostert and Paul Morris started on the last spot on the grid, before moving through the field to take the winners trophy.
A 20 minute final check for the supercars was held at 8:05am before they take to the track later in the morning. There is now nothing left but for them to line-up for the big race.
