Young resident Doug Thompson believes a serious accident is imminent if action isn’t taken to improve sighting at the exit and entry to a local supermarket.

Mr Thompson said he witnessed an accident at the location on Wednesday when a car collided with an elderly person on a mobility scooter.
“When you add the time to stop with reaction time you’ve already collided,” Mr Thompson said regarding the hedge at the entrance/exit to the Aldi car park in Young.
While Mr Thompson saw a collision between a car and a mobility scooter he said “young kids don’t have a reaction time, unless they’ve been in a similar situation, they just don’t realise the danger”.
Mr Thompson has spoken with Aldi staff in Young and Hilltops Council staff and been told at both locations that multiple concerns have been expressed regarding the hedge.
“Drivers of the vehicles coming out of the car park turning left don’t look left and if you’re turning right you have to concentrate on the oncoming traffic,” Mr Thompson said.
“KFC in Young had a similar hedge and it was fixed following complaints.
“The Aldi hedge does conform to height regulations but it doesn’t pass the pub test.
“An incident is imminent,” he said.
There are three ways to look at dealing with the hedge and prevent a serious incident, Mr Thompson believes.
“Signage, which won’t work.
“Trim the hedge, which is a simple thing to do.
“Or totally review the width of the access road,” Mr Thompson said.
