Native Bees and Other Bugs for Pollination – up close and personal with Dr Megan Halcroft
This Saturday October 14 specialist in native bees Dr Megan Halcroft will be hosting a workshop in Young on Native Bees and Other Bugs for Pollination – Up close and personal.
Dr Halcroft is not only an expert in native bees but is also passionate about other insects that are beneficial to the environment.
The workshop will introduce participants to the world of bees including discussions on why bees and other insect pollinators are the driving force behind biodiversity and a balanced ecosystem.
The worskshops will include:
- pollination and other ecosystem services provided by inects
- how food security depends on pollinators
- a hands-on component that includes catching and identifying insects
- how to distinguish beneficial and pest insects
- how to protect and support our bees
Cost for the workshop is $10 per person which includes morning tea and lunch.

Growing the Bottom Line Field Trip – Exploring the integration of biodiversity and farming
Young and District Landcare have an open invitation to join them in visiting David Marsh’s property ‘Allendale’ near Boorowa to explore how to improve the biodiversity values of the land while providing shade and shelter for stock and crops, using birds as an example.
The day will include a presentation from David who is an award winning farmer and conservationist and a presentation and paddock walk with project manager at Greening Australia Nicki Taws,
Ms Taws works on the restoration of woodland and grassland habitat and has a particular interest in birds.
Cost for the event is $10 which includes morning tea, lunch and bus transport from Young.
