Fiona J Culverson of Blackett Avenue in Young represented herself when she appeared in front of Magistrate Michael O’Brien for the offence that occurred on September 27.
Magistrate O’Brien asked the 38-year-old woman if she was currently applying for a licence to which she replied no.
When Magistrate O’Brien asked her if there was anything she would like to say in regards to the charge she replied she just wanted to plead guilty.
Magistrate O’Brien explained she could be imprisoned for the matter with her history of similar offences.
Culverson was convicted, fined $200, disqualified from driving for three months and given a section 9 bond.
Police antecedants submitted to the court stated:
“The accused did not appear to have any regard for the safety of other road users, pedestrians or even her own passenger.
“She did not seem to grasp the seriousness of the offence and acted as if it was not really an issue.
Nup, I don’t have one, they’re too expensive.
- Fiona Culverson
“Police believe that the accused has no intention of obtaining a licence and will continue to drive without a licence posing a significant risk to the community.”
According to the police facts submitted to the court, on September 27 police saw a white Holden Commodore travelling east on William Street and stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Blackett Ave for a random breath test.
When the police approached the vehicle they saw Culverson in the driver’s seat of the car.
The officer asked her for her licence.
“I don’t have my licence on me,” Culverson said.
Police asked if she had a current licence.
“Nup, I don’t have one, they’re too expensive.”
Culverson returned a negative result on her breath test before she was asked if she had any other form of identification and was able to produce a NSW identity card.
Further police enquiries confirmed she had never had a licence and further enquiries revealed she had previously been convicted in Narrandera Local Court on January 20, 2017 in relation to the same offence.
