According to local historian Brian James the film is fairly accurate up to a point in telling the tale of Ben Hall.
Hall and his gang were not only the last real bushrangers in New South Wales history, they were also the most infamous in Australian history coming well before Ned Kelly and his gang in Victoria.
Originally Hall was a well respected stock owner and leased a stock run on Sandy Creek not far from Grenfell at the foot of the Weddin mountains.
Through bad luck and worse judgement things skewed toward a downward spiral for Hall which resulted in him turning to a life of crime.
With robberies, hold ups, murders as well as other mayhem the tale is set in central western NSW, including Young, and brings to life the story of some of Australia’s notorious bushrangers.
