More than 100 people attended the meeting last week to discuss the pros and cons of locating the Education Precinct next to the High School in Carrington Park.
Hilltops Council general manager Anthony McMahon said the mood at the meeting was generally positive.
"There were certainly some concerns raised over the site as there has been for any previously suggested sites," he said.
"There was clear support for the benefits of the links between education and community facilities and being future focused. I also believe that when people became aware of the far greater potential benefits by working and funding jointly with the department of education some perceptions shifted."
Mr McMahon said the Council is taking the concerns of those worried about a loss of green space seriously.
"One of the key considerations during the design process will be to minimise impacts on green space," he said.
"The exact location is yet to be finalised and there is a real likelihood it will overlap between school and public land.
The general manager said the Council is working with the department of education on design concepts.
"It is expected that funding will not be confirmed until at least the first quarter of next year which means we will be continuing with planning through that time," he said.
Attendees provided ideas for the facility which ranged from creative arts-orientated spaces – including a gallery with exhibition space – to community meeting rooms and a café.
"One of the key considerations will be to minimise impacts on green space.

Mayor Brian Ingram said the strong turnout showed how important this precinct project was to the community.
“Governments reward innovation and this is our opportunity to demonstrate to the State Government just how future-focused Hilltops Council – and the broader community – is,” he said.
