A former Young man was convicted in Young Local Court by Magistrate Michael O’Brien after he was stopped by police and found to be in possession of Cannabis.

Shane Anthony Parsons of Makeham Street, Grenfell was handed a 12 month bond and ordered to pay $100 after he was charged with possess prohibited drug on Friday, January 12.
According to the agreed upon facts presented to the court police were conducting a patrol of Clifton Street in Young when a vehicle ahead of them came to their attention. Police stopped the vehicle on Currawong Street and approached Parsons and another male in the vehicle.
The area in which Parsons was sighted is known to police as a high drug crime area known for the sale of illicit drugs.
This in combination with other factors formed a reasonable suspicion in police minds the vehicle and the occupants may be in possession of illicit drugs.
Police informed the accused of their intention to seach him and the vehicle.
The accused complied with this request. At this time he stated ‘I have a bit of cannabis in my pocket’.
The accused produced a small foil with green vegetable matter inside which police seized.
The accused participated in a recorded interview.
During this time he made full admissions to purchasing the cannabis and being the owner of it.
Vickki Boldt of Stanley Street in Young was given a conditional discharge in Young Local Court for cultivating two cannabis plants in her backyard.
Ms Boldt pleaded guilty in front of Magistrate Michael O’Brien and was handed a 12 month bond along with her conditional discharge.
According to the agreed upon facts, presented to the court, Ms Boldt found herself under suspicion from police after police received information from a member of the public who told them there may have been two cannabis plants growing in Ms Boldt’s yard.
At 9.40am on Monday, January 15 police attended the location and spoke with Ms Boldt where they put the allegation to her to which she replied, ‘Yes, I have them.”
Ms Boldt pointed out the location of the two 130cm tall plants.
Ms Boldt was interviewed by police and made full admissions to cultivating the plants. She stated she grew the plants from seeds and attended to the plants by watering them. She further stated that she used the plants for personal use and that she used the cannabis to help her eat and sleep.
