Trainers Joe Cleary and Matthew Dale shared training honours with two wins each. The feature race of the day went to the Queanbeyan mare Mossy Girl ridden by Josh Divrimol for trainer Joe Cleary and her sixteen very excited owners, who defeated MISS FARLOO and the locally owned, Gratz Vella trianed, Jindaberra in an exciting and close finish.
Other winners on the day included Bitofastar for Joe Marzol from Wagga in race one ridden by Aaron Sweeney. The ½ head margin in favour of the winner certainly kept the crowd on their toes until the final numbers were semaphored, the minor placings going to the resuming Destiny Ambush who had not faced the starter since May 27, 2017 and the Matthew Dale trained Santa Clare who started from a wide gate to finish on strongly under vigorous riding from Kylie Nesbet. Clara Dale Lass ridden by former local lad Patrick Scorse won race two from Operose and the top weight Onemore For Mumma ridden by Meagan Taylor. Patrick has shown vast improvement over recent months in the saddle, that ability has been seen by leading Sydney trainer John Thompson who has now taken the likeable young fellow under his wing ensuring a bright future in the ‘Big Ring’ of racing.
This similar opportunity was afforded to Nick Heywood last year and his immediate future has been secured, Race three went to the well supported Emissions ridden by Jason Divrimol for Joe Cleary who defeated a determined Why Me Lord and top weight Running Brooke for Canberra trainer Joseph Ible.
Race four went to the Kerry Weir trained Foxlike ridden by Meagan Taylor who finished too strongly for the Cooma trained Certain Riches with Pastiche for Roger Waters and Michael Hagney finishing third.
Race five gave Moruya trainer Matthew Dale a well deserved win with Receipt who flashed down the outside in a thrilling finish in defeating the Nick Olive trained three year old Luga Lad ridden by former amateur jockey Billy Owen with the top weight Iron Stride claiming third money. Matthew Dale then won the final race of the day with Aquamosa in a thrilling finish defeating Quint Australis and recent Boorowa winner Mystique Beauty ridden by Carly Frater-Hill for trainer Joseph Ible.
President of the club, Richard Thackeray praised the outstanding effort from a very small but enthusiastic committee in ensuring the day was such a success.
The Loft fashion House Best Dressed Lady award went to Lyn Hansen while the Bruce’s Mensland Best Dressed Gent award resulted in a win for Ben Murray.
The winner of the members draw was local racing enthusiast Jill Rosen with runner up John Chrighton.
