Covered in faces and sights that are familiar to many locals the Young Services Club introduced its new courtesy bus last week with many locals making the most of the gold coin donation cost and using it to be picked up and dropped off at the end of their evening out.
“To start with we are running the bus Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 4.30pm,” Young Services Club’s Belinda Allen said.
“Pick-ups commence from 4.30pm with rounds of the motels, Young Golf Club and the caravan park, plus group bookings.”
All bookings for pick-ups are subject to availability and all pick-up and drop offs will be within town limits or inside the 60 km/hr zones of the township.
“From 7.30pm until required we will do half hourly drop offs to homes, motels etc.” Mrs Allen said.
The first patrons to be dropped off will be those who live on the south side of Young – south of the Wombat Street bridge – before those on the north side of town will be dropped off.
“A gold coin donation is to be made to the bus driver, which we will be donating to local charities and groups, similar to our community raffles,” Mrs Allen said.
The current days that the bus is available are on a trial basis with the hope that the bus will be available more frequently as its popularity grows.
Many patrons have already made the most out of the availability of the courtesy bus using it to attend the club and return home for functions, catch-ups, get togethers and nights out without having to rely on designated drivers or someone to come and pick them up.
“It’s fantastic,” one patron said.
“It means my wife and I can go out and have a couple of drinks, stay for the raffles and head on home with both of us enjoying ourselves.”
The bus is currently available on other days as requested.
Anyone wanting to make the most of the courtesy bus either as an individual or as a group should contact Young Services Club on 02 6382 1944.
