ANIMAL LOVERS: Animal rescue volunteer Lisa Ryan sent in this photo in memory of her late father, Martin Carrick Ryan – “a man who used his craft and skills as a good journalist to be a voice for animals and all matters involving social justice,” she said. The photo was taken in Adelaide in 1960 and pictures her at 6-weeks-old with her father and late mother, Shirley Margaret Ryan. Also pictured is their first family ‘rescue’ dog, Trio, which her mother saved from being shot by a farmer.
