A sell-out crowd of 120 guests attended the Young Crisis Accommodation Centre's (YCAC) masquerade ball last Friday night, raising $4197.10.
With the Young Golf Club as their backdrop, men and women wore their finest black and gold outfits and paraded around the venue with masks all shapes and sizes.
It was all to give a financial boost to the centre, who provide accommodation and any other support to women and children who are victims of domestic violence.
Last year YCAC provided 1606 nights’s accommodation to women and children, and contacted 184 families who were victims of domestic violence.
One of the biggest thank you’s to YCAC came from a mother of three children who found the courage to leave her husband after 15 years of physical and emotional abuse.
“She had no money, no transport, no family support, no friends, no clothes for herself or her children,” Margaret House committee member Bronwyn Dixon said in a speech.
“YCAC provided this woman with accommodation, food, clothing, legal support, financial and emotional counselling and all ongoing means necessary to begin a new chapter in her life and her children’s,” she said.
“This is why we are here tonight, so we can continue to help people like this lady within our community.”
