The Lions headed to the Temora West Sports Ground where they gained the upper hand early in the game.
The Lion’s attacked straight from the kick-off and were rewarded when Nathan Hislop opened the scoring within five minutes before Temora equalised shortly afterwards.
Despite this setback, Young continued to apply pressure on the Temora goal until Tyler Allen scored two goals in quick succession midway through the half.
Caylum Barber and Duncan Cameron also netted in the closing stages of the first half to have the visitors going into the break 5-1 up.
It was all one-way traffic in the second half with the Lions scoring another nine goals without reply.
Allen completed his hat-trick, while Storm Anderson, Calum McCaffery, David Brouwer and Brant Taylor also added their names to the scoresheet.
Taylor’s second goal was the highlight of the match, with a stunning flick and volley from distance leaving the Temora goalkeeper with no chance.
While pleased with the result, Lions coach Mark Mellish knows his side needs to improve if they want to be considered contenders for the Pascoe Cup.
“Starting your season in a new competion with an away game is never easy,” Mellish said.
“We wanted to get early touches and possession and set the tempo which we achieved, but our execution in the final third let us down.
“Their goal was against the run of play but to our credit the boys settled into a rhythm after conceding and really dictated the rest of the game.
The Lions will now have a week break for Easter before resuming with another away match against South Wagga.
