After the cold and wet conditions led to the cancellation of bowls for Saturday the second semi-final of the club triples was transferred to Sunday afternoon.
Conditions were still cold but fine when Albert Carter, Joe Bargwanna and Geoff DeBritt played Mick Manning, Troy Summerfield and Joe Chambers in an closely fought game.
Geoff’s team took an early lead of 8–3 before Joe’s team hit back to have the score at 8–7 after 11 ends.
After 16 ends the teams were tied at 11–all and after 21 ends they were level again at 16–all.
With four shots on the next end Joe’s team held the advantage but Geoff’s team scored three shots on the next two ends to be just one behind going into the final end.
One shot to Joe’s team on the final end gave them the match 21–19. They will play Peter Berry, Bill Maloney and James Maloney in the final on Saturday.
Despite the cool conditions on Sunday morning there were 12 starters for the morning.
The winning score was 15 points for Walter Penfold and Troy Summerfield.
A field of eighteen players took advantage of the fairly pleasant conditions on Thursday afternoon.
Close games were the order of the day with the highest winning margin being nine shots for Max Penfold and Harold Anderson.
None of the winners were lucky enough to collect the jackpot.
During the week Garry Fish competed in the Wheelchair Sports NSW State Championships at Milton–Ulladulla.
In the pairs Garry teamed with Geoff Seton from Leichardt and they finished in second place in the competition – a great result. This is the final reminder that entries for the minor singles close on Sunday.
The first games will be played on Saturday, September 17 with further games to be played on Sunday, September 18. Entries are now open for the club fours and they close on Saturday, October 8.
Good luck to the eight players from the club who have been selected to play for the South Western District side in the annual match against the Southern Highlands District.
The games will played at Tumut Bowling Club with play scheduled to commence at 9.30am. Bowling members are advised that copies of the annual report are now available for collection.
Tickets are on sale at the club for the special dinner to mark the 30th anniversary for the Young Bowling Club Fishing Club.
The dinner is on Saturday, October 15 and former international cricketer Len Pascoe will be the MC for the evening. Others from the Hi–Tide Fishing Program will be special guests for the weekend.
