Young Lions Soccer Club’s First Grade men were knocked out of the Football Wagga Wagga competition on Sunday as they came up against a more determined Junee side.
The Lions’ hopes of obtaining the 2016 Pascoe Plate were cut short in the high scoring game that saw Junee pile on seven goals to Young’s one. It was Duncan Cameron who broke the drought for Young when he scored in the final five minutes of the game.
Despite the outcome, captain-coach Calum McCaffery was proud of his team.
“As disappointed as I am, I’m proud enough of the boys as well,” he said. “I couldn’t have asked any more from the 11 players who came down.”
“We had a lot of chances but their keeper played really well, he pulled off some very, very good saves.”
The club wishes Blake Wilder all the best on his new start in China.
