Rain snatched away any chance of play last week for the second time in as many weeks meaning no hockey has been played for the past fortnight.
Players will be nervously watching the forecast for tomorrow too as poor weather lingers in the area.
Unfortunately the cancelled round meant that Bears were knocked out without a fight despite a year of great matches that saw them take defending premiers Red Backs all the way in the first game of season and score points from half their matches.
Always a tough opponent, Bears will rue games that got away from them this year but should be encouraged by the high quality of their matches all season.
Games scheduled for this week see Cougars face DTS in the new early time of 1PM with the winner advancing to the B Final next week.
The second game, Red Backs v Blues at 3PM will decide the other finalist for the 2016 title with the winner to meet the Penguins who have already secured their finals spot after finishing on top of the ladder.
This match however will have two consequences with the victor progressing to the A-Grade Final while the other team drops into the B Final against the winner from the earlier match.
So with nothing but the weather to stop us the announcement of ‘let the finals begin’ is issued for the second time, though hopefully to more action this time.
Draw for September 17:
Finals, Week 2
1pm - Cougars versus DTS. (Blues/Red Backs) Blues.
3pm - Red Backs versus Blues. (Cougars/DTS). DTS.
Don’t forget to add in the diary following the grand finals next weekend, the club will be hosting a light reception at the Commercial Hotel for players and family.
This will follow medal presentations and season awards on the ground at the end of play with all players invited to watch the games. With the winter competition concluding in the next couple of weeks don’t worry more hockey is coming.
The Tuesday night comp will start after the school holidays, October 11, with anyone interested able to add their name at the canteen or on facebook at facebook.com/youngcombinedhockey.
Games will start at 6pm and is a great casual format to keep fit with plenty of open space to run, learn new skills or play hockey for the first time. Cost is $20 for the season with a free barbecue on every week – you can’t lose!
